Golden Beach
Community Garden

A space where people come together to grow edible plants, to learn skills, build friendships and to experience the joy that gardening together can bring.

A welcoming outdoor community place where the focus is on people, sustainable organic gardening, learning, teaching and healthy food choices.

The Reel deal:

Updates from the garden

New edging and plants in the Food Forest. Kath has planted Curry Plants, Hyssop, Wild Bergamot, Tansy, Mexican Tarragon.

Planning team: We have formed a Planning team who will gently suggest what to plant in which garden beds and organise growing or buying the seedling for the members to plant. Contact Kath Morris if you want to be part of the planning team. Everyone is welcome to join.

Garden beds: We now have 33 garden beds at the garden. 11 garden beds have been leased to individuals. They are marked on the Garden Plan and within each bed there is a sign to say that they are leased by members.

Composting: 2 compost bays have been built and we have 10+ compost bins. Many have been filled already by the almighty Ross. To join the fun, you can collect your green and brown matter and bring it to the garden to add the the compost. Also when you are at the garden you can check in the bins to see if they need turning or need some water.

Worms: 3 worm farms are in use and we are getting some great worm juice from them. The usages is weakly weekly. So you could dilute some worm tea each week to water the garden with.

Storage: The Shed is doing a great job of holding all of our tools, mowing equipment, fertilisers and items.

Growing: The Shade house is up and the shade cloth is on. We have started to grow our very own seedlings. Huge thanks to our sponsor the Caloundra Power Boat club!

Water: Thanks to Jim Eden we have a bore and a tap where water flows from at all hours. The solar on top of the shed roof feeds a battery and the bore pump in the shed. The tap key is hanging just inside the shed door for those of us that want to water

Sponsorships and Grants: We won a grant from Sunshine Coast Council. We were unsuccessful with the Gambling Grant. The exec team are starting another round of requesting money from sponsors and applying for grants.
