Hello Garden Friends,
Itโ€™s been a busy couple of months since our last meeting. We had the AGM. Weโ€™ve welcomed new faces, planted for spring, and made great progress on our big projects. Hereโ€™s whatโ€™s been happening in our garden!


๐ŸŒธ AGM Wrap-Up

Our Annual General Meeting was a success, with Glynis Saunders continuing as President, Tegan Morgan as Secretary, and Jon Browning joining as Treasurer. It was also a lovely chance to connect socially with members.


๐ŸŒฑ Garden Updates

  • Spring vegetable seeds planted โ€“ focusing on popular edibles everyone enjoys.
  • 19 garden beds delivered and they are being filled by members
  • Garden beds and compost bays now being numbered for easier management.
  • Gotu Kola placement discussed for the community beds.
  • Free native trees from Council planted to replace missing plants โ€“ starting a new native garden.

๐Ÿ’ง Facilities & Infrastructure

  • Bore fixed & water filter replaced โ€“ better water flow is now available.
  • Proposal to buy a 1000L IBC for extra water storage.
  • Considering shade solutions for beds (white cloth, structures).
  • Proposal for a strengthening the shed also allowing for hooks for extra storage.
  • Clearing out broken/excess shovels;
  • Donated sleepers and bricks will be put to use.
  • Garden towers to be propped up with bricks once soil is delivered.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Grants & Funding

  • Tenure Extension Proposal (+20m) submitted โ€“ vital for future grants; awaiting council confirmation.
  • Education Centre: Updated quotes ready, ownerโ€™s consent next; planning $11,000 grant application with $11,000 co-funding.
  • Funding received: Discretionary funding from Cr Terry Landsberg used for 3 small garden, plants, and event support.
  • Pending: SCC Major Grant (closing 25 Aug).
  • Sponsorships:
    • Bendigo Bank application pending.
    • RSL โ€“ not successful.
    • Pelican Waters Shopping Centre โ€“ to be contacted.
    • Andrew Wallace MPโ€™s office โ€“ initial discussions started.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ Membership Update

  • 27 new/renewed members this period.
  • 51 paid members for 2025/26.
  • Facebook group: 711 members (+56 since June).
  • All leased beds allocated โ€“ waitlist now in place; 2 more beds added to leasing pool (cap now 21).

๐Ÿ“ฃ Community Engagement & News

  • AGM success: Glynis Saunders reelected as President, Tegan Morgan as Secretary, and Jon Browning welcomed as Treasurer.
  • Curated Plate: Strong engagement with the three Caloundra gardens.
  • Support from Kendall Mortonโ€™s office: Printed colouring-in pages for the event and offered future assistance.
  • Networking: Ongoing outreach with other community gardens; Caboolture CG Open Day coming up.
  • Mural project: Quotes being sought from local artists, with grant funding to be applied for.

๐Ÿ“‹ Volunteer Tasks

  • Help gather Christmas raffle donations and ideas for selling tickets.
  • Join working bees for shed improvements, shade solutions, and garden tower setup.
  • Suggestions for new tenure area including ideas for activities for children in the garden.
